TORONTO, March 11, 2026 — FirstPrinciples, a non-profit research organization building Theo, the AI Physicist, today announced the appointment of Yang-Hui He to its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB).

Yang-Hui He is a mathematical physicist whose work spans quantum field theory, string theory, algebraic geometry, and number theory. Since 2017, he has also become a leading voice in the emerging field of AI for mathematics, exploring how machine learning can assist in uncovering new mathematical structures and relationships. With more than 200 scientific publications and several books in the field, his expertise will help guide the development of Theo, particularly in areas related to mathematical and symbolic reasoning.

“AI has already shown promise in identifying structure within complex mathematical datasets to raise conjectures that have initiated fields of research, as well as begun to solve open problems. Extending these approaches toward systems that can participate in conjecture generation and theoretical reasoning is a natural next step, and I look forward to helping explore that direction with FirstPrinciples,” said Yang-Hui He.

Yang joins Victor Galitski, who was appointed to the SAB earlier this year. The advisory board provides expert perspective on scientific direction as Theo evolves. As the system begins contributing to research, advisors also help ensure that its outputs remain aligned with contemporary theory and positioned to contribute meaningfully to scientific progress. FirstPrinciples plans to expand the Scientific Advisory Board throughout 2026.

FirstPrinciples is an independent, non-profit research organization dedicated to understanding the nature of reality. By combining software engineering rigor with scientific curiosity, the organization is building Theo, the AI Physicist as an open-source, autonomous research engine designed to accelerate scientific discovery. Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, FirstPrinciples operates as a remote-first global collective of engineers, physicists, and AI researchers.
